EP 62: The Road To Becoming A National Best Selling Author with Mercy B. Carruthers

This week I chat with national bestselling author Mercy B. Carruthers. Over the past 6 years, Mercy has written over 70 Urban Fiction and Romance titles under her two pen names, Mercy B. and Grey Huffington. In this episode we chat about how she used writing as a way to overcome her depression after losing her daughters father to cancer and how it also led her to writing her first book, we chat about how she uses her writing to shine a positive light on black love in a time where toxic relationships are often praised. Mercy also takes us through her writing process and how she has been able to kick out over 70 titles over the past few years and How she is now helping other authors bring their work to life and more!


ON WHAT SPARKED HER LOVE FOR WRITING

Mercy says she was always excelled in English in school but her journey to discovering her love for writing didn’t come until her 20s. After her daughters father passed away from cancer, she says that writing was the only way she was able to find healing for her depression.

ON HER WRITING PROCESS

Mercy admits that she is a workaholic but after realizing that she wasnt spending enough time with her oldest daughter she decided to only write during times when her daughter wasn’t home. On any given day Mercy says that she can crank out anywhere from 3,000 to 14,000 words depending on the amount of time she has!

ON WHAT INSPIRED HER TO HELP OTHER WRITERS

After having to navigate the world of self-publishing herself, Mercy knew she wanted to help other writers put their work out into the world. She now offers coaching and ghostwriting services to aspiring writers.
